Scouting Parent Checklist

  1. Complete a BSA Youth Application
  2. While only 1 parent or guardian is required for the youth application, the other parent or any other adult other than the legal parent / guardian participating with the youth, such as a grand-parent, needs to complete an adult application for an “Adult Partner”.

    The Adult Partner application does not have a fee associated with it, however this adult does not count toward required adult volunteer supervision.

  3. Create an account at my.scouting.org
  4. This account will be used to track your adult training as well as your scout’s advancements and rank.

  5. Complete Youth Protection Training on the my.scouting.org home page.
  6. Youth Protection Training (YPT) MUST be completed in order to attend ANY unit activities.

  7. Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record A & B
  8. An Annual Health and Medical Record Parts A & B are required for all Scouts, including adults, prior to attending ANY unit activities.

    Our units have decided to collect these at the beginning of the program year and keep them on file for the year.
    This is not required, however if you choose not to have it on file, you will be responsible for supplying it at each event after which it will be returned.

    Immunization dates are required. "Up to date" is not sufficient. At district or council activities, your scout will be sent home without it. A copy of your insurance card is also required.

    All medical records and physicals are valid for 12 calendar months after which they will be returned or destroyed.

    If attending events longer than 72 hours such as summer camp or resident camp, parts A,B & C, are required. Part C must be completed by a doctor.

  9. Complete the BSA Activity Consent Form
  10. This form will need to be completed for each activity your scout attends.

  11. Complete Target and Range Sports Waiver
  12. If attending any Target and Range Sports activities, the Scouting Participation and Hold-Harmless Agreement must be completed prior to attending.

  13. Complete Family Talent Survey
  14. Read the Guide to Safe Scouting
  15. The Guide to Safe Scouting is an overview of Scouting policies and procedures gleaned from a variety of sources.

  16. Uniforms and Supplies
  17. Various uniforms and supplies may be needed according to rank and program.
